Town of Westport and Westport-Wadhams Community Alliance JOINT STATEMENT ON COMMUNITY CIVILITY
Both the Westport Town Board and the Westport-Wadhams Community Alliance Board (formerly the Chamber of Commerce) share an important purpose: to create a welcoming, inclusive Westport-Wadhams community that is economically and socially healthy.
Both Boards are committed to a conscious and continuous demonstration of mutual respect - for people, for the roles they take on, for their knowledge and expertise, and for their contributions to the wellbeing, safety and general welfare of the community.
Respect, civility, tolerance, integrity and honesty are not just words; they are intentions that are evident in our interactions with one another. We honor the right of expression, tempered with respect for the rights of others, even when points of view are controversial.
To that end --
•Each of us has the personal responsibility to engage courteously in all forms of communication, whether oral, written, or electronic.
•Regardless of status or position, every person has worth and dignity.
•Recognize contributions of others and value their opinions.
•Demonstrate and promote fair and just treatment.
•All members of the community are responsible for contributing to the common good.
Please note: if you have a complaint about actions that negatively impact the community-at-large, or you personally, please either 1) speak directly with the Town Supervisor and/or attend a town board meeting; or 2) contact the Westport-Wadhams Community Alliance (info@gowestportny.com) and receive a respectful response.
